As the lead singer of Decca, Olympia and Generál, Charlie was a major figure of the heroic age of Hungarian beat music and rock, who also toured internationally with Afriaca and Pannónia Express. In the 1980s, there was a fair chance you had to go abroad to hear his distinctive voice. He returned to Hungary in 1990, joining Tátrai Band, before re-establishing himself as a Hungarian pop legend with a solo career he began in 1994.
He developed his unmistakably individual style from a combination of blues, jazz, soul and funky. Richly orchestrated and tastefully harmonized, his songs have lyrics that always reflect on real experiences, which may explain why most of Charlie’s hits became classics almost immediately. Just how many classics are we talking about? Come and be surprised at the Bartók Spring, and alongside the well-known songs, get a taster of the new album as well.
We would like to draw the attention of our audience to that the current pandemic regulations may also affect the online program of the Bartók Spring International Arts Weeks, the program and the dates of the events may change.
