The 10th Ritmo starts on Friday in the House of Music Hungary, with an international conference, which will now concentrate on our region and the Dutch scene. In addition to the lecture of Ian Brennan, who will talk about fieldwork, music and identity, there will be mentoring and networking opportunities, as well as daytime showcase concerts. The conference will be held in English.
The free afternoon showcase programme will introduce emerging world music artists to the industry and the public. The keywords for the Friday night concerts are Anatolia, psychedelia and minstrels. Balázs Szabó’s band and his guest, Mónika Lakatos will be followed by psych pop stars Altın Gün. The tradition of minstrels will be evoked by the charismatic Kurdish Alevi Ali Doğan Gönültaş, while Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers will serve up some Dutch gospel-disco. Dance will be guaranteed at the Akvárium Klub when Carmen Souza, who combines the music of Cape Verde and jazz, or FÜLÜ, who play in masks, take to the stage.

Budapest Ritmo is jointly presented by Müpa Budapest and Hangvető in the framework of the Bartók Spring.
