The photographer and musician is a passionate European; born into a family of German musicians, he grew up in Italy and in the Rhineland. Considered one of the most successful German jazz musicians of all time, the melodic quality of his playing has earned him the soubriquet ‘German Chat Baker.’ This true virtuoso of the trumpet convincingly conveys the mood of our times with his music and photography.
As he probes his own identity, he interprets the image of Europe and the sensitive complexity of our world, using the apparatus of total works of art. Whether his subject be a portrait, landscape, industrial scene or piece of architecture, as a sensitive observer he documents and thematises not only the developments and societal trends of his European homelands, but also the problems of a world struggling with crises such as the pandemic or the war in Ukraine.
The exhibition is on view between 14 April and 25 August.
