Founded in 1970, the New York-based Ballet Hispánico is one of the most important institutions of Latin American culture in the United States, and its company has performed for more than 2.5 million people on three continents. Carmen.maquia pays tribute to Bizet’s world-famous opera, Carmen, which premiered 150 years ago. Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s choreography retells the tragic love story with elemental energy and visceral intensity. ‘An experience unlike any other in the Latin dance space we’ve seen in quite some time,’ wrote the reviewer of Latina Magazine. Multiple award-winning Gustavo Ramírez Sansano has created productions for such renowned companies as the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Compañía Nacional de Danza, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Luzern Dance Theatre and the Hamburg Ballet.
