Julia Fischer is an internationally celebrated violinist, a versatile musician who also excels as a concert pianist, chamber musician and educator. She took up the violin at age three, and soon thereafter started her piano studies with her mother. The first prize of the 1995 Yehudi Menuhin Competition was a milestone in her career. She regularly appears in concert with the world’s best orchestras, working with such renowned conductors as Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Yuri Temirkanov and Franz Welser-Möst. The last season saw her perform at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Carnegie Hall in New York. At the Bartók Spring, she will appear as a partner of the principal conductor of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Vladimir Jurowski, who in the autumn of 2021 was also appointed music director of the Bavarian State Opera.
