Captivating stories behind the music: this is Budapest Ritmo’s Film Days. The diversity of genres that marks Ritmo must, of course, inform the film days as well, and we’ll have subjects ranging from Mali blues through Japanese folk song and bossa nova to Santana. Along with extraordinary performers like Joan Baez, Fatoumata Diawara and Gogol Bordello, the documentaries offer a look into little-known, rare musical idioms like the griot tradition, Turkish hip-hop or the roots of bossa nova. This year’s Ritmo film, which has been directed by Áron Mátyássy, will be premiered on Friday: Ilka Kisgyörgy will help us to rediscover imitation Hungarian folk songs. The previous years’ Ritmo films will also be in the programme. During the two days, video clips from MOME Open will also be screened, as well music shorts from Friss Hús Festival. In addition to interesting discussions, the record market in the cinema lobby will offer a selection of musical delicacies and rarities.
The Budapest Ritmo is jointly presented by Müpa Budapest and Hangvető in the framework of the Bartók Spring.
