In 2019, László Velekei created the most recent piece for Ballet Győr, but like many, he was unaware that the premier would only happen about a year and a half later. The popularity of the style-setting masterpiece of the 19th-century romantic ballet, Giselle, has endured to this day, it's title role is every ballerina's dream. Velekei reinterpreted this enigmatic but simultaneously beautiful and haunting story and shaped it to his own taste and the virtuoso music of Félix Lajkó.
In order to show to the audience how much work goes into putting such a production on stage, the company was delighted to have the Bartók Spring crew join them behind the scenes. The pandemic forced the premiere and, consequently, the filming to be postponed by over a year, making the creative process for GisL exceptional in every aspect. The audience will finally be able to see what László Velekei and his team have been working on for a year and a half on May 13th, albeit only on screens.
