Csokonai: Mihály Balázsovics (MC Tink)
Music: Zsolt Prieger
Featuring: Evelin Ivy – vocals, Gábor Subicz – trumpet, Zsolt Prieger – electronic instruments
Dreamt up by Zsolt Prieger, this surreal musical-literary performance – or literary DJ set – stems from the idea that Csokonai is not just a mythical figure of the past, but also a person very much of the present: he is the great main stream – or even new wave – of Debrecen. Prieger’s fellow composer Mihály Balázsovics (MC Tink) and Debrecen jazz trumpeter Gábor Subicz readily concurred, and joined forces to create a piece that is equally atmospheric, danceable, philosophical and thought-provoking, as well as entertaining. János Térey, another great poet from Debrecen wrote: “Csokonai’s œuvre is dense, full of surprises, as a forest of whispering foliage, as perhaps that of Weöres and Arany, in Hungarian poetry. The world of his teasing lovers and sunlit gardens is akin to that of Mozart, who likewise died at the height of his powers.”
