Featuring: Chris Potter – tenor saxophone, Craig Taborn – piano
Members of the band: Reid Anderson – double bass, Dave King – drums
The Bad Plus, the iconic formation founded in Minneapolis in 2000, acknowledges a variety of inspirations, from jazz and classical music to rock and pop, and they have a reputation for casting a new light on the songs of such bands and singers as Pink Floyd, Nirvana and David Bowie. At the Bartók Spring, two of the founding members will take to the stage with saxophonist Chris Potter and pianist Craig Taborn. The concert will be a tribute to pianist-composer Keith Jarrett and his legendary American Quartet, which featured Charlie Haden on double bass, Paul Motian on drums and Dewey Redman on saxophone. For Anderson, King, Potter and Taborn, the music of the American Quartet is more than a source of inspiration: they consider them a formation of essential importance, which shaped the thinking of a whole generation of jazz musicians.
