When a Family Pulls Together

Szabó Ferenc / 17 March 2026

Singer-songwriter Péter Gerendás and his children will give a concert titled Gerendás Generations at the House of Music Hungary on 9 April. The composer and performer, who is equally at home in the worlds of Latin, pop, rock, jazz and theatre music, and who has collaborated with countless Hungarian stars, needs no introduction. His children may also be familiar to audiences from Margaret Island or the band of Azahriah. The family band made its debut over a decade ago, and this performance now crowns their occasional collaborations.

It’s a case of apples not falling far from the tree. From John Lennon to Bob Marley and Sting, or from Levente Szörényi and Örs to the Gryllus family, there are numerous examples of musicianship being passed down through generations. Several of Péter Gerendás’s children, raised in a large family, have pursued careers in music, becoming well-known figures in both the Hungarian and international scenes; two of them are returning from abroad for the sake of this concert.

Daniel, drummer and producer

Dániel Gerendás was the first of the children to both follow in his father’s professional footsteps and to achieve success in the trade. He was three when they noticed his great sense of rhythm, and at age seven he was already playing in his father’s band. After completing his musical studies, he went on to showcase his talent in a number of formations. He first found success with The Biebers, and quickly rose to the top with Margaret Island as well; while their schedules allowed, he provided the rhythm for both popular bands. After Margaret Island packed it, he moved to Los Angeles, where he runs his own studio and works as a producer with top American artists.

Hanna, singer and pianist

Hanna Gerendás, who found her niche at the keyboard, made a name for herself a decade ago with a music compositions for the theatre production Álmok (Dreams). Much like her father, whose band Oxygen was active in Norway during the 1980s, she has enjoyed international acclaim. Hanna has what it takes to interpret the songs of others (from Prince and Jimi Hendrix to Amy Winehouse and beyond), and as a singer-pianist, she has performed in over sixty countries, in addition to her work with the family band, which she joined at the age of eight.

Ruben, bass guitarist, session musician and producer

The youngest member of the Gerendás Family Band originally took up the bass to join the rhythm section, but did so with such aplomb that it earned him a spot in the band of Azahriah, whose productions fill stadiums. A consummate soloist on the bass guitar, he is also proficient in numerous other instruments and is no stranger to the studio either, where he works both as a session musician and, with increasing frequency, as a producer.

The concert will also feature a fourth Gerendás child, with Mirkó making a guest appearance as a singer. Come and see how this family pulls together on the stage.
